MEDICINE WHEEL HEALING COMMUNITY

Medicine Wheel Healing Community Philosophy

Our beliefs are based on searching for our individual "truths". Around each person's circle of truth, a larger circle can grow. The extent to which an individual's circle expands depends upon the levels of truth a participant attains.

Our path leads down the "Red Road" where the Native peoples travel. We undertake every effort to turn our members around and lead them back toward that road.

Integrating the white man's skills to make a living in this world, along with Native American culture, provides well-rounded training, fosters personal respect, and provides pride in the individual, that they too can survive in their environment without addictions. The evolutionary process from additictive personality to healed, centered individual encourages others to follow the same path. Our synergistic and communal environment encourages all to work together toward recovery and a new life's path.

Native Americans consider recovery a spiritually centered healing process. Addictions are viewed as a symptom of a deeper spiritual wounding caused by generations of oppression and negative stereotyping. The Medicine Wheel Healing Community approach combines contemporary tools with traditional practices, i.e., smudging, talking circle, swet lodge, drumming, dancing, and native songs. We rely on a circle of Native community support and activities that produce a healing environment.

We have a strong belief that by bringing a member back to their cultural roots, fosters recovery.

Our mission is to develop a "circle of healing" to the entire community based on our recovery success stories.
