Medicine Wheel Healing Community held its first workshop on October 12, 2011 at the Oglala Lakota College. The topic was "Bipolar Disorder and Drug Use & Abuse" with emphasis on cannabis. According to the panel members and the participants the workshop was a success, as it provided important information on how to work with bipolar youth, especially when substance abuse is also present. More workshops on different topics are planned for 2012 |

ANNOUNCEMENT BI-POLARITY (Manic-Depressive Disorder) When: October 12, 2011 Where: Oglala Lakota College, Piya Wiconi Headstart Conference Room This workshop is coordinated by the Medicine Wheel Healing Community, a Assistance and expertise will be provided by the IHS Mental Health Department, Tribal programs, including law enforcement, tribal courts, justice centers, treatment centers, schools, as well as family members are urged to attend as attention will be focused on the issues of Bi-Polarity and Cannabis use/abuse. Recommendations for coping will be made. Manic-Depressive Disorder behaviors can lead to suicide and criminal behaviors, affecting the wellbeing of families. Starting time: 9 am CEUs will be provided through OLC. A $ 35 registration fee incurs to cover meal, handout material and travel for panel members. Vouchers are accepted.
